On Saturday May 1, 2010 members of the Kearney Area Brewers gathered at Emmett Maul’s garage for the annual AHA BIG BREW. Four batches of beer were made including the AHA proposed 80/- & American wheat. It was proven once again that the KAB members can cook as well as they can brew. A toast was made at high noon to homebrewing and the happiness it brings to us all & Greg Noonan, who gave so much to the homebrewing community. Greg passed away last fall at the age of 58 after a short battle with cancer.

Four members of the club made the journey to Lincoln for the 2010 Nebraska Shootout. Monty, Doug, Emmett & Tom. Dave & Patty met us there briefly before heading off to their grandson’s baseball game. We had a great time visiting with members of the other Nebraska Brew Clubs. KUDOS to the Lincoln Lagers, The Bricktop and Jason McLaughlin for hosting this great event!!

In the end we walked away with two 2nd places, but not enough to bring home the hardware. Tom received a 2nd place for his Weissbier & Smoked Robust Porter. We also enjoyed a great potluck. Emmett’s Sauerkraut dish was a big hit and everyone wanted the recipe. Here are a few pics from the competition.

Some of you may have heard. The NHC Midwest Region (our region) was maxed out at 750 entries. Our member, Ron Phillips, entered #750. Good karma maybe??? The Northeast Region was also maxed out.

This is the first time ever that any region has hit their 750 limit. Our hobby has grown!!!
